Valentine's Day Pinks

(Edelweiss surrounded by a sea of Silene armeria)

Today's post is an early tribute to Valentine's Day.

One of my favorite blogs at www.blotanical.com is Cottage Magpie at www.cottagemagpie.com.

Angela's posts are so beautiful, even the ones not about gardening just tickle the senses and warm the heart. Angela has asked other bloggers to join in and submit pink garden photos for Valentine's Day. I've never joined in on a blogging event like this, what fun!

Of course everybody sees the color pink differently, and there are so many different shades of pink. There's hot pink, Barbie pink, pale baby ribbon pink and lavender pink such as I see echoed in the above combination of Echinacea (Purple cone flowers which have no purple to my eye) and Hemerocallis (Daylily) 'Eggplant Escapade'. Hmm, that doesn't seem right with two plant names that sound quite purple but they look pink to me.

Zinnia's are such simple, happy flowers. I love this hot pink bloom, wish I could cut one and put it right next to my computer monitor right now!

Sheesh I'm suffering CRS today. I been really wracking my brain to come up with the botanical name for this plant and I'm still drawing a blank. Honestly, I'm giving my self a headache just trying to remember what this is. Guaranteed I hit the "publish post" button and then I remember :-)

And finally...tah dah...I saved my favorite for last. A pink sweet pea. Don't know where I photographed this as I don't think I've ever grown sweet peas. Sure makes me want to try though!

So why don't you join on in? Swing by Angela's place at www.cottagemagpie.com, read what it's all about. Then scroll down and read the comments people leave there as they will link you to more gardening sites that are posting pink flowers too.

Thinking pink,
Melanie

I don't have the latin, but is it purlane? I think I will look through my pictures for pink blooms, what fun.

LOL at that CRS since I suffer from it often! Portulaca although I don't know that cultivar. Beautiful gardens which warm the heart on this miserable day!

Gorgeous plants !
You have such a beautiful garden area Melanie !
Talking of sweet peas .. I have grown them and they smell divine .. but this year I found a fun mix that Mr. Fothergil's has for Canada Day .. red and white sweet peas mixed together .. I am wondering if they will bloom in time, when ever I do get a chance to pot them up for the deck.
This winter sucks ..........

Hooray for Layanee!!!! Whoo hoo, Portulaca it is. Aunt debbi/kurts mom was pretty close, at least you got the first letter right!

Crazy me had the name "rock rose" stuck in my head and I just couldn't get past that.

I didn't save the variety name, there's an herb farm further out on Long Island that has an amazing selection of Portulaca and I just pick out the ones I like (not too many as they charge too much $$$ for them).

Found you through Cottage Magpie, and love, love, love your blog. I'm a gardener, too, although I've scaled it down a bit as the arthritis in my hands has kicked in. Is one of the lilies on your front page Casadenia, do you remember? Some old country lady gave me *one, several years ago, and I love it.

Love portulaca, here, too. It comes up effortlessly year after year, as long as I don't dig it up, and sometimes, even then.

Do you have rose campion in your garden, speaking of pink?

Hi thirkelgirl, I just had a lovely visit to your delightful blog!

Believe it or not that lily on my front page is a daylily! It's a double and goes by the name 'Two To Tango', how romantic is that.

Yes, I have lots and lots of rose campion here, enough of it that I used to load it in a wheelbarrow and walk it down the road to a flower farm. There I'd trade it for something I didn't have, like yet another variety of Hosta. Should have traded it for Mayapples because the farm no longer sells plants and I want those Mayapples!

This was a fun post to read! I loved the pink sweet pea. This year, I am determined to get some sweet peas growing ... yes, indeed!

And now it's time to sleep and I'll be dreaming in pink!

Hello Melanie! I love your blog site & your article on pinks for Valentines day. And that photo of Callie is just too funny. I've finally moved to my "hem heaven" & started my own blog about my trials & tribulations with house & garden(s). You were the inspiration for that. :-)

Anna, no longer in Syracuse, LOL!

I was at the Phila FLower show and thought of you at every exhibit! You taught me so much about the garden. Happy to see you are still
sharing your knowledge with all. Love Robin Q.
