Before the rain...

There are no Peonies here in my garden. This photo was taken at Kim's house, a new tree Peony in her border just burst into bloom.

While it's stunning outside now, we are expecting thunder storms and rain in the afternoon. I've been out since early morning spreading compost and trying to get all my new acquisitions in the ground before the rain comes.

It just occurred to me that I forgot to put up a post this morning. If the weather holds long enough I'll have more photos. Otherwise, till tomorrow...

The Peonies are beautiful. I don't have any either, but now I wish I did!

Oh, the exquisite beauty of tree peonies!!! We don't plant them here for the very reason you mention: Nothing is lovelier than a tree peony bloom, but the second it rains, they're mud-dragging mush. Herbaceous peonies are bad enough in that respect! Nonetheless, every time we see a tree peony, we drool...

The only time my Tree peony bloomed I was tempted to run outside and put the umbrella up...it was a pretty white flower. This fall she is being evicted to a sunnier location in someone else's yard! But they are beautiful flowers.
