Garden Bloggers Bloom Day - March 08

Today turned out to be the most perfect gardening day of the year so far. Temperatures made it up to the mid 50's and I spent hours cleaning up the garden. At first I couldn't make myself start but thankfully I had just read Carol's post yesterday at May Dreams Gardens.

I did just as she said and took it one small area at a time. There's still so much more to do but I feel so good for what's already been done.

The 15th of the month is Garden Bloggers Bloom Day also courtesy of Carol at May Dreams Gardens. The first photo shows one of two large clumps of Crocus that were in bloom today.

The Galianthus (snowdrops) are popping up all over the place. I can finally see that there are seedlings in many areas Hooray!

Not quite in bloom but in bud are my Helleborus foetidus (stinking hellebore).

These are the last two of the yellow crocus that were the first blooms here of 2008.

Also in bud and ready for a few more warm days are the dark smokey purple Hellebores.

Finally, the lighting was poor in this corner but the Hamamelis (Witch Hazel) 'Arnold's Promise' was in all it's glory and smelled heavenly!

You have lots of stunning blooms, so good for the soul. I must be the only garden blogger without snowdrops, that must be remedied this fall. Your witch hazel is exquisite, everything looks so fresh and springy!

Melanie I am so glad your snowdrops are having babies are the all in the hosta bed?
Love to see your pictures of Cali
the happy dog.

I'm pleased my advise help you get started in your garden. We had rain much of the day here, so not a good day to garden, but I had to work anyway.

I'm sure having those blooms also puts a 'spring' in your step; it does mine. I have neither snowdrops or witchhazel but both are now on my list!

Thanks for joining us for Bloom Day!

Wow, Melanie, your clumps of crocus and snowdrops must have been established for a while to get so full and lovely. I think I scatter mine too far apart; they look pretty scrawny compared to yours!

I love the large clusters of snowdrops and crocus. I need to remember to plant in large clusters, it certainly has more impact.

I love that witch hazel's bright springtime hue, but then I'm into yellow right now.

Looking at all these other virtual gardens where spring is far ahead, compared to my garden, I realize there are other gardens in the blogger´s world that are behind. My garden looks similar to yours at the moment, and it even seems to be a bit ahead, snowdrops have withered here and the first tulips are blossoming.
'Arnold´s promise' looks beautiful!

What lovelly blooms! Snowdrops are my favorites. I don't have them in my garden (I don't think they would do well with our hot dry weather)

Spring has definitely sprung in your garden. Lovely blooms.

Very nice! We'll have to put some crocuses on the list. I really want to get a witch hazel for next winter. We need more winter interest!

Snowdrops are a favourite. Since I live in a flat I have to look at them in other persons' gardens - and blogs :-)

Melanie, spring looks lovely on your garden. The snowdrops and crocus are such a welcome sight.

Note to self: MUST save energy for bulb-planting this fall. (So far I've planted only some daffodils here.)

Your Hellebores are all much further along than mine, but our Snowdrops & Witchhazels are blooming at the same time. I don't get it. Your garden just swings with spring.

Hi there, Melanie :-)

Lovely photos of Spring in your garden. I especially liked the snowdrops. Great to be getting back out into the garden too - I need to do that too :-D

I do love the gardens back in NY. I'm originally from NYC but now am residing in England. Thanks for brining me back home.
